KND Community Projects in Punta de Mita

Punta Mita Mural Project

Once upon our time there was  a street art shaman…after a bit of finagling with the local authorities and a bit of fundraising a mural was born in Punta de Mita in 2012.

It takes a village, including shaking down (with a smile), the local painters and residents to help prime the walls.

PEACE Kids Plate Project

Peace Plate Project.French dining is an art and the plates are its canvas. OR they can be art as inspired by a client in Punta Mita and in coordination with a local ceramicist in Higuera Blanca and the PEACE Foundation in Punta de Mita and their young, aspiring artists.

Punta Mita Postcards #FamiliesBelongTogether

Kids wingsAs a US expat living in a tiny village in Mexico, watching immigrant families being separated after crossing the US-Mexico border in the Spring of 2018 and put into detention facilities along with the international protests planned in June, I felt we needed an action plan in Punta de Mita that would make a difference. I connected with immigration lawyers, mostly working pro-bono who were allowed to go into the “facilites” to consult with the now separated families who were isolated from the world. Can we write to these kids? Yes. Never underestimate the power of the Punta de Mita community, over 500 handwritten postcards were delivered. Eternal gratitude to PEACE for loaning us chairs and shade, the travelers who mailed out the postcards from the US, and every single person that participated with their humanity, compassion and love. Not all heroes wear capes.

Thank you letter

Matisse Collages

5.During the last decade of his life Henri Matisse deployed two simple materials—white paper and gouache—to create works of wide-ranging color and complexity. An unorthodox implement, a pair of scissors, was the tool Matisse used to transform paint and paper into a world of plants, animals, figures, and shapes. One of our clients in Punta Mita, an artist in her own right asked if any of the local kids would be interested in an art class on Matisse and collages. This is what happened at the Peace Foundation one day and the result.
